Microsoft tried that already. It failed miserably. I don't think they gave a reason but I suspect that garbage collection caused too many freezes in early 2000s hardware.

Nobody suggested that Godot was on par with Unity. The hope is that resources get diverted away from Unity towards Godot so that it can develop into a top-notch game engine. It's time to stop waiting and start working on Godot.

I've tried it out. Right now it seems more of a proof-of-concept than a real-world application. Having said that, the concepts and ideas in there are definitely reusable.
