I stopped smoking by getting a prescription drug called Champix (apparently Chantix in the us). The instructions tell you to pick a day to stop like 5 days after starting the drug, I think on day 7 I just didn't feel like smoking anymore. After the prescription ran out I started to crave cigarettes again but no where nearly as badly as going cold turkey so I just didn't smoke any more.
