- sillygoose 11y agoNice to see someone who can be reasoned with. I looked at some of your comments and saw you mention how your friends despise philosophy. I believe that's because "academic philosophers" spend most of their time debating and pontificating on things that have no connection to real life. Search for the book "Empty Ideas", to see an academic philosopher make that very case. They're usually "working" for universities etc, and are disconnected from the real world in that way too, because they don't have to provide other people with a service they would voluntarily pay for. So they're free to engage in full-time mental masturbation, while the people who involuntarily finance it have to actually work for a living. That's probably why your friends despise philosophy.
