      Why would any new material, educational material especially, ever use Python 2?...

      There is very little stuff that is different between the two languages that you are likely to encounter on a day to day bases.

      don't think there was room for a downvote really... I'm used to python 2 syntax and would argue more than 50% of python enthusiasts prefer it.
