I have never worked in a company, large or small, where my coworkers behaved in this manner. Meanwhile, I have worked in numerous companies where a colleague was not able to make a scheduled interview and asked me to stand in for them instead. I'm not discounting the possibility of your guess, but I have never experienced it personally, and I would have a major issue working with anyone who behaved in this manner in a professional environment.
