Macroscopic decoherence has explained away Schrodingers Cat. It's been a non-mystery for years.
- tjradcliffe 12y agoExcept it doesn't. Decoherence is simply a complicated way of saying, "We are only aware of the existence of systems in multiple states via their interference with one another", which is true, but the interesting question, the central question, is: why is true? Why aren't we simply and directly aware of quantum states the same way we are classical states? Why is consciousness purely classical, and the classical universe the only thing we are aware of? Why do we have to infer the existence of the quantum world rather than simply having the experience of being in a superposition ourselves?

By the time our brain perceives something, haven't all the interacting parts of the brain undergone decoherence with respect to all other interacting parts?

- JamesArgo 12y agoThe problem of the cat is entirely caused by the assumption that experiments only have one outcome, the belief that wave functions can collapse by magic. The Everett interpretation solves the problem. Your questions are odd. We live in the macro scale, and at this scale classical physics is a great approximation. However, decoherence exists as a prediction of quantum mechanics, which explains why this is the case. What more do you want?
