How do they do the 100% model? It sounds awesome, but how do they actually make that happen?

  hey @harrisonapowell, we are committed to every single penny of donor dollars going to building homes for families in need. That will never change. We work hard to get private/corporate donations specifically for our overhead costs.

Wow - really awesome. They use video to show donors the families in their new home. So you see exactly who you're helping. It'd be an insanely great UX to scroll through and see pictures of the family before and a video of them after!

  Thanks for the feedback! We agree - there is nothing like seeing your actual impact - watching the exact family you donated to moving into their brand new home! We will definitely incorporate your before/after suggestion!

  I think the differentiator is that they show the donor the impact of their donation using video - which is really cool.

  Watsi is definitely an organization we are inspired by. Technology is a powerful tool to tackle social issues and it's encouraging to see orgs changing lives through tech.

    It seems like all the families you have helped are in the same town in Haiti, do you have a timeline in mind for expanding globally like Watsi?

I love seeing how technology puts a face on the need. Makes it more personal and like I'm actually giving to a real person, not just a huge black hole. The people that need help around the world are individual, not media photos and over-your-head stories

  So true. I work in a non-profit and have seen that when someone feels a more personal connection, they are much more likely to stay engaged over a long period.

  Hi John! I'm new to HN as well. I think the reason the comments are positive is because the concept is pretty cool - showing donor with video the impact they are having. No other charity does that.

Just checked them out and it's awesome. They give you fully transparency into where your money goes. Love that they focus on one family at a time. Their design makes me feel like I'm dealing with AirBnb and Uber... Instead of the typical charity. Love this idea. Homelessness can all be solved for!

I really like how this focuses on one family at a time. It could help avoid some of the criticism that Watsi has gotten of "Whoever has the cuter photo gets funded." There are countless families in need but hopefully local partners and experts can best identify the level of urgency in each case.
