I haven't tried resetting mine, but allegedly with iOS 8 they're no longer defaulting to the 4-digit simple PIN.

- zippergz 12y agoIt still defaulted to a simple PIN on my iOS 8 devices (including a new iPhone 6). But yes, it is of course possible to change the setting to allow a more complex password.
