Supreme Court revisits the question of software patents
- nullc 12y agoSome of the most fun in Alice Corp. so far is the ACLU amicus arguing that software patents have first amendment problems: http://www.americanbar.org/content/dam/aba/publications/supreme_court_preview/briefs-v3/13-298_resp_amcu_aclu.authcheckdam.pdf http://www.americanbar.org/content/dam/aba/publications/supr... Less surprisingly, the Software Freedom Law center and OSI present a similar argument: http://www.americanbar.org/content/dam/aba/publications/supreme_court_preview/briefs-v3/13-298_resp_amcu_sflc-etal.authcheckdam.pdf http://www.americanbar.org/content/dam/aba/publications/supr... It's unfortunate that the EFF brief (http://sblog.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Alice-Corp._v._CLS-Bank_EFF-Merits-Amicus-Brief.pdf http://sblog.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Ali...) spends all its time whining about NPEs and hardly touches the subject. Especially in contrast to the Google and Amazon amicus (http://www.americanbar.org/content/dam/aba/publications/supreme_court_preview/briefs-v3/13-298_resp_amcu_google-etal.authcheckdam.pdf http://www.americanbar.org/content/dam/aba/publications/supr...) which goes nearly as far as the ACLU.
