What were your thoughts on XenForo?

  Hell no. It's based on the Zend framework which is an even greater pile of rot!

      Nope. Just not a fan of adding piles of abstraction on top of something that just crawls already. To be honest I'd use a different language/platform if you need to use patterns like that where they perform (java/c#). Bit of a "no true scotsman" that one as well. Just because someone doesn't use Zend doesn't mean they write spaghetti.
