I used gentoo for many years. I have come to view this as something of an abusive relationship. Now I'm a happy arch user, and no longer think of interactions with the package manager with a sense of dread! That's interesting. I dread arguing with any non-portage (that is, non-Gentoo) package manager. Maybe that's just 'cause I'm used to portage though.
