I've had a lot of luck negotiating freelance contracts. So far having a lawyer review it and explain until I understand it usually costs <$300. That gives me ammunition to negotiate until I get the terms I can't stomach changed (or turn down the contract so I can sleep at night). I once got pretty much free reign to rewrite a section of a contract on IP ownership that needed to be signed ASAP.
