I thought Minecraft's inspiration was Infiniminer?

  More or less. When creative mode was made, the intention was emulate infiniminer and grab the fans of the abandoned game, but the survival mode, that is mostly a copy of dwarf fortress, was planned from start. Minecraft is dwarf fortress with infiniminer interface.
