There is a ready component (http://www.cocoacontrols.com/platforms/mac-os-x/controls/obmenubarwindow http://www.cocoacontrols.com/platforms/mac-os-x/controls/obm...) that you can use to create a menu bar application which can be dragged out to be a regular window. Just remember to keep states and stuff.
