i guess amazon no longer needs the naturally free publicity from having 90% of CDN content URLs being of the format xxx.s3.amazonaws.com ... you can now have CDN URLs that look like xxx.yourdomain.com :O ... AMAZING!!! well, let's hope adding domain hosting to amazon doesn't add to further downtime.

  You're not over-simplifying, you're just wrong. S3 and CloudFront have supported custom subdomains for years.

You could always have that, but now you can use just "yourdomain.com" instead of a subdomain.
