    Part of software development is architectural design, database design, etc. That goes hand-in-hand with coding -- you come up with the design then implement that design. Part of software development is structuring the code to make it readable and maintainable. Part of software development is writing suitable tests to ensure that the code does what it is required to by the design and specification. Part of software development is ensuring that the code meets things like accessible and security guidelines. Part of software development is choosing suitable technologies and languages.

      AI is more capable at all those things... If not today, it will be tomorrow. Not sure what to make of that though.

        It's been tomorrow for an awfully long time now. Does it feel like the quality of software has got better or worse in the last few years? Is larger quantities of worse software really want we want to optimise for as an industry?
