Apparently it was just so big and featureful that no 2 people can agree on their experience. I only used it for half a year in 2003, didn't have anything to do with administration. I could receive and send emails, and I think newsgroups (or was that not directly included?), I had not self-hosted email at that point, but of course used it for a couple years. It was better than Outlook at a job I had before that, otherwise I'm really indifferent.
