- laimewhisps 8d agoIt's generally considered parasocial to call famous people you don't know by their first name.
- pickleRick243 8d agowhat? So everyone on earth is parasocial for calling Kobe Bryant Kobe?
- laimewhisps 8d agoI mean, yes that's the definition of parasocial: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parasocial_interaction https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parasocial_interaction
- pickleRick243 8d agoyour questioning made it sound abnormal. If this conversation were about Kobe Bryant and someone used "Kobe" to refer to him, would you have made your comment? Pretty clearly your criticism of parasociality doesn't have much bite if everyone is parasocial.
- laimewhisps 7d agoWhile I think calling a basketball player by their first name is parasocial and lame, it doesn't compare to calling a white supremacist by their first name. That's just twisted.
