- alistairSH 7d agoIt's also more than the cost of an iPhone Pro + a MacBook Neo (or several other combinations). I'm just not seeing the value proposition for a $2000 phone. I already can't comfortably hold or type single-handed on the normal-sized Pro.
- wpm 7d agoThe correct price comparison is between an iPhone Pro and an iPad Mini, in the US that would be $1199 + $599. So for an extra $200 you don't have to carry and charge 2 devices. Not a terrible pitch.
- alistairSH 7d agoSure, I guess, but I don't have a Mini, or any tablet for that matter. I used to and found the form factor didn't meet my needs. I'm happier with a phone and a laptop.
- artisinal 7d agoFor most people this can replace an iPhone Pro, a MacBook Neo and their iPad. For those people, $2000 is a good price for a device that does all their digital work.
- devnulll 7d agoI base many of my purchases on how many hours per week I use them. In terms of usage hours, my mobile phone comes out near the top. This makes the price almost immaterial.

- prewett 7d agoThat's about $675k/year, assuming a 35% tax rate. I think that is a small fraction of HN users, but more to the point, if your argument is that the phone is not expensive if you make over $500k/year, I'm not sure that is a compelling argument...
- jjice 7d agoWhile I won't pay it, it seems pretty comparable to other flagship foldable from Google and Samsung.
- raphinou 7d agoDoesn't make it less ridiculous, and that price for the other brands isn't less ridiculous either.
- Kirby64 7d agoThe retail price of the equivalent Samsung phone is $1900 (1899) - or $2100 for their 'Ultra' phone. Seems just in line to me.

- MBCook 7d agoI think there were rumors going even higher since Apple is so often a premium priced product. Matching their top competitor in price is a good look. They could’ve absolutely floored everyone if it had been $1500, but there’s no way that’s possible, at least having margins anywhere near what Apple likes.
- alwillis 7d agoWe'll have to see but it has a titanium frame with Ceramic shield front and back. Obviously Apple knew where other foldable phones fell short; they clearly planned to overcome those shortcomings.
