Again, I don't think you can chalk up this much of the global capitalist project being won over for this long to "the wool being pulled over their eyes". It doesn't mean they're right, but they have sophisticated strategic calculations we should try to understand. American "business as usual" politics came into conflict and have become increasingly untenable. Trump directing a highly motivated third of the population to embrace brutal imperialism is destructive. But demonstrably we have seen that there was even less appetite for a government that campaigned on being nicer while actively committing a genocide.
