Ethics are easy to hold until they cost you something : the real test of principle is whether you’re willing to endure the hassle of moving all your passwords to another service. So what are other good options to move ? Keep in mind 1Password is amazing :)
- mplanchard 12d agoI switched to Proton Pass yesterday, since I’m already a subscriber to Proton Mail. Setup and import from 1PW was easy, took maybe 15 minutes tops. So far it has been working satisfactorily enough.
- embedding-shape 12d agoWhat devices you use it on? Are you maintaining setups for others like family members too? When I looked at migrating away my family from 1Password, self-hosted Bitwarden has seen like the best potential setup, yet still not perfect enough to warrant a move as it's a huge hassle to teach people the right way to use password managers. Although maybe if it's similar enough, they might not even notice the difference?
- mplanchard 12d agoiphone, linux (ubuntu, nixos), mac, firefox. I have a shared vault with my partner, which was easy to transfer and re-share. She’s tech savvy, so no issues there, but it didn’t seem any more complicated to me than setting up 1password was. For other family members, I have tried for years to get them onto macs, mostly successfully, and so for them I just recommend apple’s builtin thing anyway.
- bicepjai 12d agoMoved from LastPass because of sketchy behaviour, now we have to do this again. What happens to ethics in our society :) I love 1Password, how we can share password with link, they have it on all os and browsers; works well with Fastmail and other apps. Does Proton Pass have all these and if they have how is the appX ? Thanks
