I wonder if these airplanes are using helium to "reduce the weight"... that is something I also don't usually on drones. Probably too expensive.

- IAmBroom 13d agoHelium only reduces the weight proportional to the volume it occupies - which is why dirigibles look like big balloons. Filling a wing with helium would barely shift the weight of the plane measurably. Filling the cabin and cockpit would be bad for what I hope are obvious reasons...
- sandreas 12d agoI'm aware of that. Just thinking of using ANY space, that can be filled - like all hallow room in the plane that cannot be made use of. I'm not an engineer, probably it is more reasonable to fill the remaining space with battery ;)
- IAmBroom 8d agoIt would reduce the plane's weight by a trivial amount, like eating ice cubes to lose weight (nutritional "calories" = 1000x heat calories). Also, helium requires airtight containment - which itself would add weight. Not belittling you; trying to explain the problem better for you.
