Crop failures and famines were common in feudalisms. Planned socialism is known for food insecurity. Also degrowth propaganda. No one "grows" for the sake of "growing", lest they have a need for it. All choosing actors act towards fulfilling their needs, regardless of whether anyone find them "fundamental" or not.
