I've spent the last 2 years in East Africa and the last thing this place needs is another predator gaining back ground. This sounds like a great idea until you find yourself after sunset in an area where electric is scare - which means basically everywhere. I got hunted by street dogs in Bulgaria, multiple times, that shit will make you go to a gun shop and I'd rather get assaulted by another boda robber than facing those things.
- InexSquirrel 21d agoSo by that logic, for you to feel safe and not take any responsibility at all, we should just get rid of all the large predators, then correct? Also shows a lack of understanding of the dogs themselves, as they're diurnal and practically never hunt at night. You're at much bigger risk via leopards and lions than wild dogs.
- throw48484858 20d agoYes please! Kill all large predators that attack people! Or give a lifetime sentense to people responsible, for killing innocent victims! Why is that even something controversial? Children should not be a chew toy for wild dogs and their irresponsible owners! If you like killing people, find some suicidal volunteers for that!!! Or feed your own children to your own dogs!!! You obviously do not understand dogs! Dogs are oportunistic predators and scavengers. At daylight it is too hot in Bulgaria, and too many people. At dailight their victims actually have a fighting chance! Of course they come out at night!
- InexSquirrel 9d agoDid... you read the article? I get the feeling you just heard the word 'wild dog' and assumed 'feral domesticated canine'. That's not what they're talking about. They're talking about a dog species native to Southern Africa (not Europe, and certainly not in Bulgaria) and there long before humans turned up. Think of it as the African version of the wolf. In terms of being a natural predator in the area, they sit in line with leopards, cheetahs, lions and hyenas - not domesticated dogs. If wolves started encroaching on human settlements and were attacking life stock or worse people, I don't think the solution is 'kill all the wolves'. It's about re-location, better boundaries, and honestly stopping expansion-at-all-costs as a societal philosophy. If you're talking about feral domesticated dogs - which tend to roam urban areas, then I'm largely in agreement with you. However we're talking about native species which is currently threatened and without intervention will be driven to extinction.
- ceejayoz 21d agoWhile we're sharing anecdotes, people regularly total their cars hitting deer breeding out of control in my area, as they have no natural predators left.

- RetroTechie 20d agoAnd along the same lines: predators moving into urban areas more & more as poachers decimated their traditional preys. Don't destroy the space they live in & most animals will happily stay away from humans.
- stuaxo 20d agoHaving seen these in the Zoo, they very much like to stalk the visitors along the fence - these are much more than just dogs.
