- dang 21d agoI appreciate your watching out for the quality of Hacker News! but on this point we go by what pg said way back in 2009: Empty comments can be ok if they're positive. There's nothing wrong with submitting a comment saying just "Thanks." What we especially discourage are comments that are empty and negative—comments that are mere name-calling. It's not that what you said was wrong, it's just that the global optimum is best served by letting good feelings be shared, even when there isn't much cognitive content.
