I think microprocessors were the biggest thing, until the internet, then the web, open source, system on a chip, virtualization, cloud, ..
When each of those things came in, there was definitely some stumbling but I remember things being less ambiguous about being good than LLMs.

- threethirtytwo 22d agoThe ambiguity partly comes from denial. LLMs in the end, to be brutally honest, replace us. That is the direction it's headed and some people can't face the cold hard truth.
- skydhash 22d agoOr are tired of the hyperboles and straight up lies. Will you hand over your bank account to an agent? Can it grow food and sew clothes?
- cubefox 22d agoIf it can't yet, it will very soon. In less than five years probably.
- skydhash 22d agoAnd what is justifying such belief?
- threethirtytwo 22d agoreality as we know it
- cubefox 22d agoExtrapolation of the extreme AI progress we have seen in the last few years.
- lovich 22d agoMy 3 month old son is now twice as big as when he was born. He’s on track to weigh 7.5 trillion pounds by the age of 10. There’s nothing proving that this technology won’t be an S curve growth like every other before it.
- cubefox 22d agoAI is not limited to the rigid construction plan of an organism. A model also doesn't have to fit inside a small skull or be limited to the daily energy intake of a human.
- lovich 22d ago> AI is not limited to the rigid construction plan of an organism. This is some AI psychosis shit. Explain how you think extrapolating off of 4-5 years of growth(I’m being generous here) means the development is asymptomatic instead of reaching a plateau like every other aspect of physics. Are you one of those people who believes Anthropics claim that they will have the revenue of the entire United States yearly for their IPO?
- cubefox 22d agoYou ignored my previous explanation.
- lovich 22d agoWhich previous explanation did I ignore? The only one I saw upon review was > Extrapolation of the extreme AI progress we have seen in the last few years. I don’t think that’s a viable extrapolation hence my mockery about a 3 month old being trillions of pounds by the time they were 10 years old. If there was another explanation please let me know so I can evaluate it.
