I dont think Geekbench is a good cross-platform benchmark, given what it measures

- TiredOfLife 23d agoGeekbench is the only consumer usable cross-platform benchmark. It matches SPEC differences between platforms
- throwa356262 23d agoDoes it test hardware, or hardware plus software that can be different on different platforms?
- wtallis 23d agoWhat degree of OS-indepedence do you think is reasonable to expect from a consumer-facing benchmark suite like Geekbench?
- wmf 23d agoAFAIK it's mostly self-contained outside of basics like malloc. If you have any evidence to the contrary, post it.
- jeroenhd 22d agoDoes that matter? I don't care of Apple's thread scheduler is faster or slower than Windows' or if their throttling algorithm behaves differently, I just want to see how it performs in a given task.
- kergonath 22d agoOn the contrary, it is actually good. For all the hand wringing when someone’s favourite platform loses out on a Geekbench comparison, the benchmarks are quite consistent, even across platforms, and track SPEC results fairly accurately. Of course it’s not perfect, but then, nothing is.
