Rust 1.98 got a P-critical miscompilation
- mmastrac 25d agoWild how infrequently this happens. There have only been a handful of compiler crashes I've been hit by (outside of nighties), and I don't recall the last one that has happened since near the 1.0 days. Crater runs are probably one of the most valuable tools that Rust has.
- SAI_Peregrinus 25d agoCrater is one of the biggest benefits of crates.io being the biggest Rust package registry. Being able to test toolchain changes against all the largest crates before those changes stabilize is an enormous benefit.
- omoikane 25d agoThere was another miscompilation discussed last month: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48743462 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48743462 - It's not me, it's the compiler (2026-07-01, 26 comments) https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/158206 https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/158206
