Ive had great success with asking claude to use openscad for part design.
Because it’s parametric design as opposed to modeling, it inherently lends itself to making it easier to build.
Use metric units when prompting, and Ive even drawn sketches to add to context, and be surprised at how good the outcome can be!
- tenuousemphasis 25d agoThis exactly. It can write code, compile it, render and inspect it. It took quite a bit of back and forth but I got Claude to generate a complex mating part from a 3D scan.

- chews 23d agooh geez tons of things, clips for my pencils, custom pegs to hold tools on an Ikea pegboard, custom brackets for Ikea children's furniture that allow you to merge them together... my kiddo's toy sink is functional with a bilge pump and some plugs I printed, enclosures for my raspberry pi's/esp32's to put them onto surfaces. ALL of this done with Claude imports of existing geometries and prompts to extend functionality.
