It occurs to me that we can use 彊 to mean "a completely unknown concept that cannot be named". For example if you ask, "when Cthulhu rises from its slumber, what is thefirst thing it will do? Probably it will 彊.
- nextaccountic 1mo agoThis sounds like a SCP entry Perhaps the meaning of this character is sealed in some vault
- arcanemachiner 1mo agoThat's not on my keyboard... Can I just stick with "ineffable"?
- holdupagain 1mo agoNot exactly, it doesn't look like the definition or even connotations of "ineffable" include "unknown".
- speerer 1mo agoIt does in the sense that ineffable things are unable to be described in language (conceptually: unknown to language).
- thaumasiotes 1mo agoAnything that is known can be described in language by giving it a name.
- gweinberg 1mo agoHey, that's today's smbc https://www.smbc-comics.com/comic/r https://www.smbc-comics.com/comic/r The problem is, there's no good reason to think the concept of 彊 in your mind is at all similar to the concept of 彊 in my brain. After all, we (probably) don't pronounce it the same, right?
- thaumasiotes 1mo agoSo learn what the word means. How did you learn what "concept" meant?
- throw0101a 1mo ago> Anything that is known can be described in language by giving it a name. And yet we have the phrase "It has a a certain je ne sais quoi." * https://lingoculture.com/blog/culture/je-ne-sais-quoi/ https://lingoculture.com/blog/culture/je-ne-sais-quoi/ You can recognize/know that something is special, but cannot quite put your finger on why.

- efdee 1mo agoAnd "je ne sais quoi" perfectly describes that. Quod erat demonstrandum
- 9dev 1mo agoMore mundanely, you could also use it as a marker character, given that nobody except for sneaky little QA hobbitses will ever use it in their input.
