I recently read a fascinating book I found in the library by an engineer who worked under Mauchly and Eckert and talks about working on ENIAC, BINAC, EDVAC, LARC, and UNIVAC. The book is "From Dits to Bits" by Herman Lukoff.

Yes! Thanks for recommending that so I don't have to... It's also available on archive.org. Told by a guy who was there for a lot of the formative stuff.
