So many Americans don't understand that these two "branches" of the Muslim world are at odds as much if not more than Israel and the Muslim world.
That whole region is a mess of deep long-standing divisions.
- dmix 2mo agoI'd still take UAE vs Saudi, over Iran destabilizing everything in the region (Lebanon, Gaza, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Western Sahara). Not to mention supporting Russia and North Korea.
- vkou 2mo agoRight, the Saudis have never destabilized anything, nor have their embrace of batshit-insane wahhabism created the environment and the people that flew two airplanes into some highrises a few decades ago.
- dmix 2mo agoRight the whole conflict UAE has with Saudis is they support Islamists who do stuff like that, which destabilizes the region. That's a good battle to have play out IMO. The fact a power player is even taking that position is pretty great, despite UAEs own flaws and meddling. Ultimately that clash is still very different than Iran being a self destructive pariah state funding only terrorism and destroyting their own economy through (often socialist) mismanagement.
