Is this real? I thought that Miyazaki was a feminist and specifically took issue with modern anime depictions of women, or something like that. And specifically, that his works mostly portrayed "strong" women. Or am I misunderstanding this quote?
- Rendello 1mo agoI was surprised by it too, perhaps I'll find the original source and see what he said directly. Maybe it's that the girls (and main characters generally) in Miyazaki's films tend to be pretty stoic, whereas Anne is incredibly talkative. Most of the show (and book as I understand it) is just her going on and on and on and on, it's her main personality trait and a source of humour.
