Why so many negative comments on this? I find it cool. I showed this to my son and he absolutely loved it. The author is clearly a fan and this by no means is a production-grade product. Just someone tinkering in their free time and gave the DIY guide away for free. I just don’t understand the negativity.
- noodletheworld 2mo agoo_O am I missing something? Did you show them the github repo, or the disappointing 5 second video of chat gpt from twitter? I was excited too until I saw it actually running and was like… huh. ChatGPT for tablet. Righto. What was your son so impressed by?
- longnguyen 2mo agoThe video. He’s 6. To you it’s just ChatGPT. To him it’s “magic like the movie”. Update: what video were you referring to? I mean the demo video he posted on Twitter.

- Yiin 2mo agookay squidward, stuff from 20 years ago that seemed magic being replicated today with technology is unremarkable and children are just too dumb to understand how boring this is, we get it
- noodletheworld 2mo agoWhatever man. If you slap chat GPT on a tablet or a website or a watch or a smart fridge you can make a song and dance about how great it is. …but bluntly, it would have been impressive 20 years ago. It is not impressive today; at least, not to me. I’m not 6.
- mlrtime 2mo agoYou're entitled to your opinion just like any other hacker here, however for the sake of others please just keep your negative comments that provide 0 value to yourself.
- antondd 2mo agoReplicating handwriting recognition that has been around for 20+ years and arguably doing a worse job at it is a low bar for “magic”
- DrewADesign 2mo agoI think they were referring to HN commenters who seem to skew above six, if not downright post-pubescent.
- lpapez 2mo agoSource?
- jstanley 2mo agoHow have we so rapidly got to the point where a self-writing tablet is no longer impressive technology?
- allthetime 2mo agoSelf writing? It mechanically presents fonted text letter by letter like a type writer. This is a gimmick at least as old as geocities
- jstanley 2mo agoYeah self writing. If you can show me a comparable project from 5 years ago I'll eat my hat. You can't because LLMs that can hold a conversation didn't even exist 5 years ago, let alone automatically hooking themselves up to a bidirectional handwriting interface. You can't just point at one part of this and say it is as old as geocities and think that that makes the whole project uninteresting. The project is greater than the sum of its parts. I can't believe so many people in this thread are so critical of it.
- nancyminusone 2mo agoTwo of the Internet's most despised (2026) topics combined: AI, and author JK Rowling. Especially when the Tom Riddle's diary in question has a defining characteristic of possessing and controlling those who read it.
- archagon 2mo agoIt’s like calling a journaling framework anne-frank. Surface level pattern matching without a single thought given to the subtext. This is why programmers desperately need liberal arts education.
