Not sure the panic. I get that it doesn't seem great to target China-based users but makes perfect sense when you consider why Fable was taken down from public access. I doubt Anthropic is cackling maniacally behind the scenes, this was almost certainly a stipulation from the government to put Fable back up. It's definitely not good but I would rather they surgically separate out possible bad actors so that I don't have to trust them with my passport, to prove I am a US citizen. I don't want the internet version of TSA checkpoints.
