I am under the impression that a big part of the current AI progress is the result of the availability of chips that were created for gaming.
- mikeocool 3mo agoAlso worth considering (and probably waiting and seeing) if the current AI progress is a net positive for society on the grand scale.
- KellyCriterion 3mo agoIt is! Earlier, Nvidia was used for displaying pixels - then the AI crowd found out that these chips are perfectly for their computations in their models, so Nvidia now turned into an AI-vendor, more or less
