I run a job search site and I don't see a crisis in terms of job openings even for SWE - but there is very clear signal that AI is deeply getting embedded in every SWE job.

- heathrow83829 3mo agoYour own site shows there's very very little demand for entry level SWE which mirrors all the other data we've seen. BTW, cool site!
- _tgxm 3mo agoThanks. Yes, entry level roles appear to be under pressure, and middle-management roles in the Bay Area may be seeing similar pressure. (anecdotally) What is less clear is whether these are early warning signs of a broader shift, or simply cost cutting measures to account for AI spend. IMO, AI coding tools have materially improved SWE productivity compared with two years ago. The open question is whether demand for new products and services will expand enough to absorb that productivity gain. If demand does not increase correspondingly, then it may only be a matter of time before we see meaningful job market pressure, starting with SWE.
- OptionOfT 3mo agoI'd correct that to forcefully embedded, like unpaid on-call.
- james_marks 3mo agoIn the news I hear about tech layoffs, but I am having a difficult time trying to hire high quality senior SWE's. Perhaps it's not the senior's that were hit by the layoffs, or I'm just looking in the wrong places. The big job sites feel rife with unqualified applicants and outright fraud, leaving me frankly unsure how to proceed. It feels like a crisis of candidates-to-job-openings matching, and AI has made it much worse.
- ChiperSoft 3mo agoPerhaps its because a good chunk of us looked at wtf is going on in tech right now and said "nah, I think I'll go be a farmer now."
- tayo42 3mo agoIs your job remote friendly and what's the pay?

- tayo42 3mo agoOh, I'm on the job market, unemployed and probably wont apply becasue of the contract. That's probably your reason for not getting the quality of candidate you're hoping for. that hourly range goes pretty low and doesn't give confidence that a potential employee won't get low balled
- james_marks 3mo agoThanks for the tip! Ironically it’s the opposite in this case; where we’re willing to exceed the upper bound for the right person. Your point about the good people self-selecting out makes sense.
- _tgxm 3mo agoJust a minor suggestion if applicable: My site didn't pick up your listing - Corvi has a direct integration with Ashby. I recommend enabling all of job boards in integrations to get your posting to job search engines beyond popular ones.
- queenkjuul 3mo agoI see dozens of senior postings, i apply for them, i get automated rejections. Wash rinse repeat for 6 months.
- punkbit 3mo agoHave you tried to verify if those job positions are real? Try to apply yourself and go through the interview process to understand what's going on.
