Chess players still play chess.

  It's not even remotely comparable. Chess players are more like athletes. You need to be top 0.01% to make a living. You also need to start at a very, very young age. If the future for commercial artists/composers is comparable to chess players then the GP is doom already.

    Only a tiny fraction of artists, and not even necessarily those you would call the best ones, are making a living of their art/performances/work. So yes that is still comparable.
