I agree with your view on what the funds collected by Kickstarter are. It's fairly easy operation when dealing with the Arts, as in "I am donating to an artist that I like". But once a product comes into the mix... that's a whole different game. I feel that the system used by quirky.com is more conductive to a real world product.
