There are a number of telescopes on Mauna Loa which have not been removed, just this sensor.
- perihelions 1y agoI don't want to touch that flame hazard with a thirty-meter pole, but, just to clarify context: - The entirety of the Mauna Loa observatory, which is operated by NOAA (weather guys), is being shut down; - The vastly larger Mauna Kea observatories, hosting dozens of federal and international clients, is unrelated

- tito 1y agoSeconded. The facility on Mauna Loa is the Mauna Loa Observatory which is atmospheric sensors and a solar telescope. The famous telescopes are on Mauna Kea (source: I grew up in Hawaii and worked for one of the telescopes, CFHT)
