My general rule for relative dates is: Timestamp (00:00am/pm) within 1 day Day of the week (Monday-Sunday) within 1 week Full date (00/00/0000) everywhere else I also make sure I provide a way to view the full date (eg Saturday 1st December 2012 at 1:27am) somewhere in a 'more details' modal or pane.
