I was under the impression that the National Guard could only be deployed like this if a local politician asked for it. Nobody asked for it for the protests in 2020, so none got deployed. Am I wrong, or did a Los Angeles politician ask for the National Guard’s help?

- lenkite 1y agoI believe it is under Title 10 to “temporarily protect ICE and other United States Government personnel who are performing Federal functions.” Title 10 provides for activating National Guard troops for federal service. Seems valid since large rocks are being thrown at federal agents.
