- JumpCrisscross 1y agoNon sequitur. Those kids are not in America’s economic self interest. Just moral. (Our culture hasn’t values honour for a while.)
- actionfromafar 1y agoBut they are in America's economic self interest. These programs are for soft power as much as they are for humanitarian value. Contrary to what those people believe, China is more than willing to compete for goodwill in the developing world, and if we thought US efforts could be hamfisted and come with a dragon seed sometimes, well we're in for some nasty surprises.

- jmye 1y agoThey did not. Had they, Congress would’ve done something, given it can legislate and owns the budget. Americans have widely voted for people who actually represent them - craven, shortsighted and mean - to go to Congress.
