Show HN: Cursor Directory – From a 3-hour build to a 250k users/mo community
Viktor and I built the first version of Cursor Directory in just 3 hours, right after I watched a few downloaded YouTube videos on my flight to France. The idea was simple: create a single place to find curated rules to enhance the Cursor experience.
Fast forward a few months, and the site kept growing. We recently added support for MCPs, a Trending board, the ability to generate your own rules from dependencies, and more!
We’d love to hear your thoughts—let us know if you have any ideas to make Cursor Directory even better!
Oh, and we’re fully open source!
- sdybskiy 1y agoThis is great! I've been using Cursor Directory pretty much since it's inception a few months ago and it's great to see it come this far this quickly. Will be diving into the code, kudos on making it OS! Would love to see a blog and maybe some documentation as to how to create MCPs
- pontusabb 1y agoThank you! The Community really helps us forward on what to build! More soon!
- lindesvard 1y agoHave also used it since day one. Impressive to see what it has become, hopefully just the beginning!
- pontusabb 1y agoThank you! Just the beginning!
- drewbitt 1y agoI cannot identify a single cursor rule for client side React that is not Nextjs. Even 'generalist React' includes it. That just doesn't work for me to grab one off the shelf, but I appreciate the examples.
- pontusabb 1y agoAdding a way for people to submit new rules directly on the site tomorrow!
- dan_voronov 1y agoWhy doesn't your MCP catalog contain a server for working with cursor.directory?
- pontusabb 1y agobrewing!
- enggman 1y agoSorry, I am a noob here and just learning to use cursor. How do we use the prompts in the cursor directory?
- pontusabb 1y agoYou can copy one of the rules or just use the download button and place it in .cursor/rules directory!
- darkteflon 1y agoLast time I used Cursor - a few weeks back - .cursor/rules was still very flaky (for me, and apparently for a ton of people on the forum) and poorly-documented. Anyone know if they’ve managed to iron it all out yet? I really love the idea but ime the execution was severely lacking. I ended up cancelling my subscription in frustration.
- Briannaj 1y agoI can confirm, the rules aren't any better. what I do is have a main prompt that just tells the model to adhere to the rules and lists them out. It doesn't really work.
- lazgrcia 1y agoHow did you grow your community and how long did it take to reach 250k users/mo?
- pontusabb 1y agoWord of mouth! Live stats here: https://dashboard.openpanel.dev/share/overview/a5hhbY?range=30d https://dashboard.openpanel.dev/share/overview/a5hhbY?range=...
- groggo 1y ago> on my flight to France ...did you not use Cursor to build it?
- pontusabb 1y agoStarted when I landed! With Cursor..
- subsection1h 1y agoAt the time that I read this thread, there were 14 comments, of which 13 were posted by users whose median karma was only 68. Does anyone have an explanation for this?
- owebmaster 1y agoFirst you need to tell us what do you think that means
- drewbitt 1y agoYes. I don't spend much time here.
- MK_Dev 1y agoWould you be able to add a light mode to the site?
- AndrianVentures 1y agoWow! This might be very useful. However, the Cursor changes and AI models change and behave differently as time goes by.
