I guess it depends. They can be competent enough to cook meals in a controlled environment: (environment built for machines and specific dishes), without ever being able to replicate the same in a human restaurant. There are a few companies that do robotic cooking, and it has its challenges due to the above reason. I am not aware of the cost problem though. How cool would it be if this replaced someone at Subway though
