I’d just selfhost a PoW captcha like https://mcaptcha.org/ https://mcaptcha.org/ – should be fine for most applications.

  Wow I had no idea this existed, thanks! It's cool that it even allows you to to get past captchas with JS disabled, I like this a lot.
