YouTube Ads Made an Absurd Amount of Money in 2024
- 6510 2y agoI consider it fraud how they are showing me the same ad over a hundred times.
- ggm 2y agoTime was, this advertising was on broadcast TV. So I can't say I am entirely surprised ads which used to place on the 4-5 global (within an economy) sources shifted here. I'd love to know how this volume of video ads relates to the adjusted dollar cost of TV placement worldwide.
- beezle 2y agoIts one thing to have 5 minutes of ads per 60 as it was back in the days of just OTA TV. Quite another when you are hit with 30 or more seconds of ads on a 2 or 3 minute video.
- MR4D 2y agoA reference point in case you’re interested… Not sure what it is today, but about 25 years ago, the standard 30-minute TV show had 22 minutes of content and 8 minutes of ads. An hour long show was exactly double that, at 44 minutes of content and 16 minutes of ads.
- beardyw 2y agoOn one of my streaming services the times are shown with ads though I pay to avoid them. A 2 hour show mostly comes on at 90 minutes just as you say.
- beardyw 2y agoAnd I suppose for advertiser's it was buying a pig in a poke, you never quite knew how many views you would get. With streaming it must be a much better metric.
- jeffbee 2y agoAt these rates you have to start wondering if they lose money on Premium.
- dcl 2y agoNot seeing ads is going is going to be a very luxury premium in the future.
- red-iron-pine 2y agoI give it a decade before we're at the Black Mirror tier "open your eyes to continue" level where you must consume ads.
