My comment is a bit more nuanced than your thinking. The barrier to entry to HN is anyone with an internet connection and motivation to create an account with absolutely no verification. That’s quite the low bar and just invites bad behavior. In many old forum days you had to be invited. Case in point- lobste.rs is invite only.
