- buildsjets 2y agoThere is such a system available. It’s called EMAS. It’s unclear if it installed at this airport and if this accident was within it’s capabilities, if it was installed. - jamai123 2y agoit was installed on 2019 but still question to Lee Kun-Tse (李昆澤) why that concrete high barier was installed even there is a easier way to install antennas which would definitelly prevent from that tragedy? - sokoloff 2y agoEMAS is common ( https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Engineered_materials_arrestor_system https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Engineered_materials_arresto... ), but many airports are built in areas where you’re inherently locked in and there’s a choice of runway, EMAS, grass overrun, but a fixed total distance available.
- MoreMoore 2y agoNot sure what you understand with "common". According to that wiki page, EMAS is installed on 112 runways in the US and there are over 1000 commercial runways in the US (as of 2007: https://www.icao.int/Meetings/AMC/MA/2007/9CCARDCA/9ccardcaip07.pdf https://www.icao.int/Meetings/AMC/MA/2007/9CCARDCA/9ccardcai...). There are only 15 non-US installations and none of them are in South Korea.
