I bet French people can't wait for their electric bills to halve overnight! (/sarcasm).
On a more serious note, EDF, France's suppliers sells their provision as 99.99% clean, which is not wrong, I guess, but a good selling point to their business.
- toomuchtodo 2y agoWhile the time and cost overruns are regrettable, it’s likely a welcome conclusion considering the Russian gas situation and the desire to phase out the last of their coal generation, which was bumped from the end of this year to 2027 in September 2023 by Macron. https://app.electricitymaps.com/zone/FR https://app.electricitymaps.com/zone/FR
- mrlonglong 2y agoWe in the UK phased out the last coal burner earlier this year. We're building a 3.2GW nuclear power station at Hinckley, expected to start up in 2027.
- toomuchtodo 2y agoHinckley Point C startup date was pushed back to 2029 unfortunately. With that said, if it can get done, that is a substantial amount of energy that can offset current UK fossil gas consumption. https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/edfs-nuclear-project-britain-pushed-back-2029-may-cost-up-34-bln-2024-01-23/ https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/edfs-nuclear-project... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hinkley_Point_C_nuclear_power_station https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hinkley_Point_C_nuclear_power_... https://app.electricitymaps.com/zone/GB/72h https://app.electricitymaps.com/zone/GB/72h
- mrlonglong 2y agoCOVID certainly buggered up things. Thanks for the correction.
